Overview

When shipping goods to the Isle of Man from outside the European Union, the recipient is required to pay import duties, whether the goods are for personal or commercial use. Import duties are calculated based on the CIF (Cost, Insurance & Freight) price, which is the full value of the imported goods plus insurance and freight costs.

Isle of Man Customs Duty Rates

The Isle of Man levies customs duties ranging from 0% (e.g., books) to 17% (e.g., Wellington Boots). Some items shipped to the Isle of Man are duty-free, such as laptop computers, mobile phones, digital cameras, and video games.

Certain types of goods shipped to the Isle of Man are subject to additional duties, depending on the country of origin. For example, bicycles imported from China are subject to an additional duty of 48.5% (anti-dumping).


Value Added Tax (VAT) rates in the Isle of Man.

Shipments to the Isle of Man will be subject to a Value Added Tax (VAT) of 20%. Specific items, such as car seats, will have a lower VAT rate of 5%, and some items are exempt from VAT, such as books, children's clothing, and children's shoes. VAT is calculated on the value of the goods plus international shipping and insurance costs plus import duties (if applicable).

The Isle of Man has a minimum duty-free tax levied, but duties and VAT are waived in the following cases:

The Isle of Man calculates import duties on an FOB basis (meaning the value of the goods only, excluding shipping and insurance costs). For shipments to the Isle of Man with a value not exceeding EUR135, or if the total amount including duties paid per import transaction does not exceed EUR9, no import duty will be charged.

Shipments to the Isle of Man with a value not exceeding EUR15 will be exempt from Value Added Tax (VAT).


Other taxes and customs fees in the Isle of Man.

Shipments of tobacco and alcohol to the Isle of Man are subject to excise duty. Additional customs fees may be levied to cover necessary costs for inspection, verification, and/or testing of imported goods.
